Hi, my name is Chelsea Spry and my husband is Jason Spry. We grew up in the Germantown/Collierville, TN area and met 12 years ago. We got married in 2015 and decided to enjoy the newlywed phase of marriage before trying for children, but if we got pregnant, then we got pregnant!
I have always wanted to be a mama and he has always been wonderful with children so I knew that a big family would one day be in our future! However, that has NOT been easy! I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
When I was 18 months old, I fell from a second story banister and fell on my back. I had several injuries but by the Grace of God, I am still alive! Although we cannot link this to my unexplained infertility, we strongly believe it is a factor. My fall shifted numerous things in my body and we believe caused some issues with my hormones among other things.
After several long and heartbreaking years of trying, we decided to seek medical help. We did numerous rounds of clomid and letrozole (we nicknamed those “the evil meds”) and then decided to seek even more help. With the help of the wonderful Mollie Walker and my sweet friend, Ashley Neugebauer, we saw Dr. Bailey at Fertility Associates of Memphis. After a few procedures, tests, blood work and surgeries, we decided to move past the medications and start the process of IUIs. We discovered I have thyroid disease (hashimoto’s) an autoimmune disorder that can cause infertility as well. After three failed attempts of IUIs and lots of lost hope and money, we moved onto IVF. Our first round of IVF was successful and now we have a beautiful, healthy 2-year-old boy, Easton! However, the journey was not easy. It was draining, painful and expensive.
We are currently going through the process again (for the last 8 months) and could use all the prayers! We have no insurance coverage and have been highly discouraged by the medical costs. My husband’s sister did a T-shirt fundraiser the first time to cover some of the costs of our journey and we are forever grateful for her and all the supporters. I would have loved to have started this process sooner, however, the costs are cruel. Nevertheless, we are gearing up for another round of IVF in March!
Infertility is HELL, it’s HARD, it’s EXPENSIVE, and it can be heartbreaking. I want everyone to know this: if you are suffering from this horrendous disease, you are NOT alone. Our slogan from the last round we did was a simple word, “Believe!” And I truly believe that we will have another blessing in our lives one day! We are more than thankful for the help of Dr. Bailey and all the wonderful staff members at Fertility Associates of Memphis!
